Alex Belakovsky

REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST, MED, RP
My approach to psychotherapy is “eclectic”. This approach recognizes that no single type of psychotherapy is comprehensive enough to address the complexities and predicaments of human existence. As a therapist, I strive to integrate different counselling theories and therapeutic interventions. I believe that different people, at different life stages, and facing various challenges, can be helped by different approaches to psychotherapy. At different times, with various clients, I might draw my approaches from any of the following schools of psychotherapy: Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT), Dialectical-Behavioural (DBT), Interpersonal (IPT), Solution-Focused, Gestalt, Narrative or Existential. In addition, I am influenced by the “common factors” approach to psychotherapy. I have 16 years of experience in the mental health care field. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from OISE/University of Toronto and am a member of OACCPP. I have completed 1500 hours of supervised training in psychotherapy and continue to be supervised by a clinical psychologist. I also possess additional specialty training in CBT, DBT and IPT and have been specializing in mood and anxiety disorders.
